Curriculum Vitae

Born in Munich in 1970, the eldest of three sons. Father was a doctor and mother was an elementary school teacher. Descended from a long line of hangmen.

Completed high school diploma in 1990 at the Christoph-Probst academic high school in Gilching. Entry in the high school diploma magazine for “Future Dreams 2010”: to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

1991: Wrote first fantasy short fiction when working as a night porter during civilian service.

1992 to 1997: Attended the Deutsche Journalistenschule in Munich to study journalism, in a sustained effort to bury the career dreams of being a best-selling author, show presenter and soul singer.

Since 1997: Permanent contract employee at Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR). Initially worked in radio, then later mainly for the television magazine show quer.

From 1999: Travel films for Freizeit Magazin (BR), including films from Cuba, South Africa and Vietnam.

2000: The birth of my son, Niklas

2003: The birth of my daughter, Lily

Since 2005: Happily married to Katrin Pötzsch, who works as an editor at Bayerischer Rundfunk and provides us with a regular income while I juggle my roles as an author who also travels on reading tours, a soul singer, amateur chef, babysitter and tomato grower.

Since 2013: Full-time author and with it the achievement of the first of my dreams.
